Revised and supplemented by a series of ISO 8124 on the safety of toys. These changes are particularly relevant in view of the increasing in recent reviews from the market of inappropriate toys because of hazardous levels of lead and cadmium, the presence of the magnets, the risk of strangulation and other causes.
ISO 8124-3:2010 replaces the previous edition in 1997.
The standard ISO 8124-3:2010 sets maximum allowable levels, the methods of sampling and analysis of the allocation of toys antimony, arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, lead, mercury, selenium.
Indicators for the following materials:
• paints, coatings, printing ink, polymers;
• polymeric materials, including layered materials, including reinforced with cloth, except for non-woven fabrics and textiles;
• Paper and cardboard maximum density of 400 g/m2;
• natural, artificial and synthetic fabrics;
• glass / ceramic / metal materials, with the exception of lead solder used in electrical connections;
• Other materials, including painted, such as wood, bone, leather;
• materials, leaving traces, for example, graphite in pencils and ink pens;
• plastic modeling materials, including clay and gels;
• paints, including for drawing his fingers, glazes and similar materials in liquid or solid form.
The requirements of ISO 8124-3:2010 applies to the following components of toys:
• any toys, which are in contact with the mouth, cosmetic toys and writing instruments, described as toys, regardless of age or marking with recommendations by age;
• Any toys that are intended or suitable for children under 6 years;
• Easily accessible veneer, regardless of age or marking with recommendations by age;
• readily available liquids, pastes, gels, regardless of age or marking with recommendations by age.
The standard ISO 8124-4:2010 establishes requirements and test methods for devices for active play, intended for use in the home for children under 14 years. This includes swings, slides, swings in the form of boards, balanced in the center, carousels, rocking toys, climbing structures, covered seats for swings for younger children, and other products designed to withstand the weight of one or more children.
